Spring is typically when we see the real estate market in Chicago come on strong. When we arrive at July and August, typically the market slows down considerably, but this July was certainly not the case.
Sales for luxury single-family homes in Chicago were just outstanding in July. There were 81 luxury homes sold—those sold for more than $1 million—and a whopping 17 of those were over the $2 million mark. Total sales volume for the month was $136 million.
So where was all of the action happening? Lincoln Park was certainly at the center of this sales surge. More than half of those top 17 $2+ million sales were in Lincoln Park, including the most expensive sale of the month. Another common denominator among the top sales is lot size. Wider lots are what luxury buyers are looking for, and a home on a larger lot than the standard 25 feet x 125 feet definitely differentiates itself from the rest.
